My 21 Day Yoga Challenge Breakthrough

Last Friday I stopped doing yoga for the weekend and I let go of my ego about not doing it (it is not the end of the world). I let what was going to happen, happen.

My breakthrough moment was on Sunday. I went for a massage with a good friend and she was concerned as to how tight I was. I was a physical mess. Everything was tight. I’m talking about my shoulders, back, quads, hamstrings and even my jaw. Every time the massage therapist touched me it hurt. Yet I got off the table and felt as though I was made of rubber. I feel like I relaxed for the first time in weeks. I felt like I could fall asleep right then and there. I was exhausted.

I realized that my body had been telling me it was having issues but I wasn't listening. I was so focused on trying to do yoga for 21 days along with everything else that needed to get done, that I wasn’t being very yogic at all. When I was in a yoga class, I thought all was good. In retrospect I now realize I wasn't relaxing my shoulders down my back. Instead I was physically putting my shoulders there using muscles, thus, creating more tension. I realized that the pitta in me was so high that my eczema had come back to haunt me. Sadly, I knew it was there but chose to ignore it because I was so busy.

Everything has seemed so much more manageable since that hour on Sunday, and I booked another hour for Wednesday. Also, I decided that I could push through with doing yoga for 21 days consecutively but I had to be aware of what I wanted to achieve by doing it to insure that where I end up is a good yogic place to be.

This morning I did some gentle asana practice for 15 minutes. I chose to focus on gentle yoga because I’ve discovered that I need more gentle yoga in my life to counteract the pitta in me.

So I’m happy to report there has been a little break through in my life during this 21 Day Yoga Challenge. Hope it’s going well for you too.

Namaste,
